Scrambler Chaos on Southampton Common: Woman Knocked Down, Dog Lead Dragged Off
Police are hunting a scrambler bike rider after a 68-year-old woman was knocked to the ground on Southampton Common late on April 26. The victim was out walking her two dogs when the drama unfolded just after 8pm.
Woman and Dog Caught up in Shocking Collision
The woman heard a motorbike approaching from behind. Suddenly, the rider collided with her, knocking her over. One of her dog leads got caught on the scrambler bike, dragging one dog’s lead along as the motorbike sped off – but thankfully, the dog escaped unharmed.
The woman was left bruised but was helped to her feet by a passing man.
Rider Description and Where It Happened
- The bike: White off-road scrambler
- The rider: Male, late teens, about 5ft 5ins, slim build
- Clothing: White helmet and light-coloured clothes
- Location: Near footpath on Burgess Road, opposite Sunrise Living accommodation
Police Appeal for Witnesses
PC Jordan Williams urged, “This off-road motorbike would have been driving through the common that evening so if you saw it please get in touch. It still had the dog lead dragging from the vehicle, so it would have been quite distinctive at the time.”
“We’d also like to speak to the man who stopped to help the victim as he may have important information,” added PC Williams. “If you know who the rider is, or have seen a similar bike around, please contact us.”
