Beast Jailed for 25 Years Over Horrific Abuse of Five-Year-Old
A vile sex predator who repeatedly raped a five-year-old girl has been locked up for over two decades following a thorough probe by Doncaster’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.
Keiren Sutherland Found Guilty at Sheffield Crown Court
Keiren Sutherland, 29, was convicted earlier this year at Sheffield Crown Court of two counts of raping a child under 13 and forcing her to watch a sexual act. The depraved acts came to light after detectives forensically examined his phone and found indecent images of a child stored in a hidden folder.
The Scot, formerly of Doncaster and now living in Edinburgh, was sentenced on 11 July. He initially received 18 years behind bars, but a judge tacked on an extra seven years after branding him a dangerous offender. That means a total of 25 years locked up.
Detective Praises Brave Victim and Family
“Sutherland is a dangerous sexual predator who is now rightly where he belongs thanks to the courage of his young victim and her supportive family,” said Detective Constable Dani Duncan-Blakley, the officer leading the investigation.
She continued: “The victim endured a horrific ordeal at a tender age before bravely opening up to her family and reporting the crimes to police. Without her testimony, justice might never have been served. Despite Sutherland’s attempts to manipulate the court, the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty.”
Long Road to Justice Sends Strong Message
“This was a long and complex investigation, but we’re proud of this outcome for the victim and her family,” DC Duncan-Blakley added. “I hope this encourages other survivors to come forward. We are here to listen, understand, and take action. We will support you every step of the way and ensure your voice is heard.”
Besides his 25-year jail term, Sutherland must also abide by a 20-year restraining order banning any contact with the victim.
Protecting Victims’ Identities Under the Law
Victims of sexual offences are granted lifelong anonymity under UK law. It is a criminal offence to name them or reveal details that could lead to identification.
