Two violent thugs have been locked up after a terrifying Boxing Day crime spree in Eastbourne — all in just three hours.

Three Violent Attacks in Under Three Hours

  • At 5.11pm, Aldi on Lottbridge Drive was targeted. Staff were assaulted as the duo robbed booze and beer.
  • Just over two hours later, at 7.20pm, the Co-op on Cornfield Road suffered another violent raid. Staff were again attacked.
  • Minutes later, at 7.48pm, a 50-year-old man was dragged from his car on Lismore Road, beaten up, and robbed of his phone and jacket.

Thuggish Duo Caught and Sent Down

Louis Thornton, 18, and Liam Kerwin, 25, both homeless, were nabbed by police just minutes after the final attack at around 8pm.

The pair pleaded guilty at Lewes Crown Court. Thornton was sentenced to two years and eight months behind bars. Kerwin got four years and two months — plus a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order, including a year of electronic tagging.

Detective Constable Marcus Cox said: “These sentences show how seriously we take these violent crimes. We will not tolerate violence against retail workers.”
