Shock Hit-and-Run in Newbury Leaves Girl, 12, Critically Injured

Police are hunting the driver involved in a serious hit-and-run on the A339 in Newbury. The collision happened just before 9pm on December 27, on the northbound carriageway near the railway overbridge by Station Road.

White Van Hits Girl on Pavement and Flees Scene

A 12-year-old girl, walking with her parent towards the town centre, was struck by a white flatbed van or recovery vehicle. The driver failed to stop after the crash, leaving the young pedestrian critically injured.

She was rushed by ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where she remains in critical condition. Her family is at her bedside.

Police Plea: Driver and Witnesses, Come Forward

“We are making an urgent appeal to anyone who has any information about this collision which has left a 12-year-old girl in a critical condition,” said PC Mark Dunne from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

“I am making a direct appeal to the driver to come forward.”

“If you witnessed the crash or have dash-cam footage, please get in touch.”

“The van may have damage on the front nearside – if you’ve seen a vehicle matching this description, contact police immediately.”
