Laser-Jamming Range Rover Rogue Gets Jail for Flipping Off Police
A cheeky company boss who fitted a laser jammer to his flashy Range Rover and repeatedly gave police the middle finger on camera has been locked up for eight months. Timothy Hill, 67, tried to ditch the incriminating device by chucking it in a river near his home in Grassington — but it wasn’t enough to save him from a prison sentence and a year-long driving ban.
Rude Gesture Road Rage Caught on Camera
Hill made a spectacle on the A19 near Easingwold, Thirsk, and Crathorne last December, flashing his middle finger at North Yorkshire Police’s mobile safety cameras on three separate occasions. The laser jammer installed on his white Range Rover was designed to confuse speed detectors. But the cops smelt trouble fast.
Lie, Deny, Dump Device – Failed Cover-Up
When police launched an investigation, Hill lied about where his car was and tried to destroy the jammer. After officers visited his home and grilled him, he finally admitted fitting the illegal gadget. Although his speed could not be confirmed, Hill was charged with perverting the course of justice. He pled guilty and faced the music at Teesside Crown Court.
Judge Slams “Attack on Justice”
The judge condemned Hill’s antics as striking “at the heart” of the justice system. His tough sentence is meant to warn others tempted to tamper with the law. PC Andrew Forth, who led the probe, said:
“If you want to attract our attention, repeatedly gesturing at police camera vans with your middle finger while driving a distinctive car fitted with a laser jammer is an excellent way to do it. It’s also an excellent way to end up in prison.”
He added: “Mobile safety camera vans save lives by reducing collisions on North Yorkshire’s 6,000 miles of roads. Drivers using laser jammers might feel clever, but we always spot them—and bring them to justice.”
