Several schools in Hackney and Essex were plunged into lockdown earlier this week after receiving threatening emails. Police responded swiftly, scouring school grounds and reassuring anxious parents amid rising fears.

The Metropolitan Police were alerted to threats targeting multiple schools across Hackney at around 8:30 AM on Tuesday, February 4. Officers rushed to at least one Hackney school to ensure pupils and staff were safe.
A 21-year-old man was arrested in Staffordshire on suspicion of sending communications of an indecent or offensive nature. He has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
Precautionary Lockdowns and Full Sweeps Conducted
Schools hit by the threatening emails acted fast, with some closing early while police carried out full searches of the premises. Thankfully, nothing suspicious was found.
“Our priority is the safety of pupils and staff. We are working closely with affected schools to provide reassurance and have increased patrols in the area,” a Met Police spokesperson confirmed.
Extra Police Patrols and Plea for Public Help
To calm parents’ nerves, police visited the affected schools at the end of the day to speak directly with families. Additional patrols have been deployed across Hackney and nearby areas.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the police on 101, quoting reference 1483/04FEB25.
Part of a Wider National Investigation
