Flat Shut Down in Eastbourne After Months of Mayhem
Sussex Police have slammed the shutters on a flat at Berwick Court, Bourne Street, Eastbourne. The move follows a string of anti-social behaviour, drug-related crime, and public disorder complaints.
Immediate Closure Order Served
On 3 June 2025, Brighton Magistrates’ Court granted a full closure order that took effect instantly. The occupant was removed, and the property will remain sealed for three months. Entry during this time is strictly banned.
Neighbours Fed Up with Violent Disturbances
Neighbours lodged multiple complaints about violent, disruptive behaviour tied to the address. Sussex Police teamed up with Eastbourne Borough Council to gather evidence and push for court action.
“Residents had been subjected to anti-social and violent incidents for several months. We hope the closure order offers much-needed respite from the impact these behaviours have had on their lives,” said Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Mattie Adam. “We’re grateful to those who came forward and to our council partners for their support.”
What Is a Closure Order?
Closure orders, under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, give police and councils the power to shut down properties used for nuisance or disorder. They’re crucial in protecting communities from ongoing disruption.
Police Call on Public to Report Crime
Sergeant Adam added,
“Reports from the local community help us map crime hotspots. This intel is vital for applying for closure orders and shaping patrols.”
Sussex Police urge anyone witnessing anti-social or criminal behaviour to report it by calling 101.
