Epsom Drug Dealer Busted After 80mph Police Chase, Jailed for Over 5 Years
Thomas Barry, 19, has been locked up for 5 years and 3 months after a high-speed getaway attempt and a major drugs bust. Surrey Police’s Operation Viking, teamed with local officers, snared the young dealer in a crackdown on drug crime and cross-border dealing.
80mph Police Chase Ends in Arrest
On April 4, Barry sped through Epsom at over 80mph in a black Vauxhall Astra, risking lives and forcing officers to call off the chase due to safety concerns. The very next day, Op Viking officers on patrol spotted him acting suspiciously near shops on Greens Lane. When he bolted, backup arrived quickly, and Barry was arrested nearby.
Weapons, Drugs, And Paraphernalia Found at His Home
Police searched Barry’s home in Waterfelds and uncovered two large knives, a stab vest, scales, multiple phones, and wraps of Class A and B drugs. Paraphernalia and drugs were also found scattered where he was caught.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark said: “Thomas Barry showed no regard for public safety while speeding through Epsom. We stopped the chase because it was too dangerous, but thanks to proactive patrolling, we caught up with him the next day. The weapons and stab vest found at his home show how dangerous some drug dealers can be. Ask yourself, is that lifestyle worth risking your life?”
Guilty Plea and Harsh Sentence
Barry pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court on May 18 to possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence. He was slapped with a 5-year driving ban alongside his jail term.
