Ex-Teacher Locked Up for Shocking Southampton Knife Rampage
Azzeddine Mahmoudi, a former maths teacher, has been jailed for two and a half years after stabbing several people in Southampton last August.
Knife Attack Sparks Panic Near Supermarket
Just after 12:45pm on a Sunday, chaos erupted on Bevois Valley Road when Mahmoudi went on a terrifying stabbing spree close to a local supermarket. Shoppers fled in panic as the brutal attack unfolded.
- Two men suffered serious but non-life-threatening wounds.
- The first victim was slashed on the head and arm.
- A Good Samaritan trying to help was stabbed in the hand.
- Mahmoudi also tried to attack five other people.
Heroic Bystanders Step Up to Stop the Violence
Armed with a large kitchen knife, 46-year-old Mahmoudi ran wildly through the area. Several brave members of the public intervened, restraining him and steering him away from crowds to prevent further injuries.
Mental Health Issues and Court Confession
At Southampton Crown Court on January 29, it emerged Mahmoudi, who holds an aerospace degree, has struggled with mental health problems for years.
He pleaded guilty to:
- Two counts of unlawful wounding
- One count of affray
- Two counts of possession of a bladed article
Justice was served when Mahmoudi was sentenced to 30 months behind bars for his dangerous knife attack.
