Family Pleads for Justice After Teen Jodie Chesney Brutally Stabbed in East London Park

The heartbroken family of 17-year-old Jodie Chesney have spoken out, devastated by her “outrageously violent” murder in Harold Hill, east London. Jodie was stabbed in the back during an unprovoked attack while socialising with friends last Friday.

Tragic Loss of a Bright Young Life

A post-mortem confirmed Jodie died from shock and haemorrhage. Her father Peter, stepmother Joanne, and sister Lucy described her as a popular, kind-hearted teen who “wouldn’t have done anything to deserve this.”

“Jodie was just sat in a park, minding her own business. Her friends say there was no altercation. Someone left and came back to stab her in the back. What kind of kudos is there in stabbing a 17-year-old?” – Peter Chesney

Jodie was a college student studying psychology, sociology, and photography. She was also a keen pianist and close to achieving her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, just two weeks away from the milestone.

Family Shocked as They Remember Jodie

Her sister Lucy, 19, recalled Jodie’s dedication. “She never skipped college. She’d never want to be late, even helping me with my hair before work.”

Peter added, “There is no doubt about the ferocity of this attack. I have no words for the person who did this, but I urge anyone who knows something to come forward. Please, if you have any conscience, help the police.”

The community has honoured Jodie by dying their hair purple and placing ribbons around the area in her memory. Peter said, “We’ll remember her as fun, honest, and innocent—she was pure in every sense.”

Police Make Arrest, But Motive Remains a Mystery

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Leicester on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at an East London police station. His detention was extended on Thursday, 7 March.

“This was a savage, evil attack. We’re progressing well, but there’s no clear motive yet, which is very unusual. We can’t rule anything out.” – Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams

DCI Whellams urged the public to report anyone acting suspiciously or showing unusual behaviour:

  • Are they nervous or withdrawn?
  • Have they suddenly changed character?
