Fire Erupts on Red Osprey Ferry at Southampton Terminal
Emergency crews scrambled to tackle a fire aboard the Red Osprey ferry at Southampton’s Red Funnel terminal this afternoon. Flames broke out in the galley as the vessel was docking, sparking a swift response from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service.
All Passengers and Crew Safe After Quick Action
The ferry’s master raised the alarm just after 3.20pm on Friday, prompting an immediate emergency response. All crew and passengers were safely instructed to don lifejackets as a precaution.
The blaze remains contained within the galley, with the onboard fire suppression system activated by the crew to keep the flames in check.
Massive Fire Response on Standby
Six fire engines, five specialist units, and seven fire officers rushed to the scene of the 93-metre ferry docked near Kutis on the Royal Pier at Town Quay. Fire crews are currently waiting for the ferry to fully dock before launching their operation.
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed the situation is under control and that the vessel is safe as firefighters prepare to board.
