Two Charged After Baby's Body Found in Brighton Woods
Detectives Make Arrests
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have charged two people following the shocking discovery of a dead baby in a wooded area of Brighton.
Constance Marten, 35, and Mark Gordon, 48 – both with no fixed address – were charged on Thursday, 2 March, with gross negligence manslaughter.
Additional Serious Charges
Alongside manslaughter, Marten and Gordon face charges of concealing the birth of a child and perverting the course of justice.
The duo are set to appear in custody at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 3 March.
Tragic Discovery and Investigation
Officers recovered the baby’s body on Wednesday, 1 March, while searching the Hollingbury area of Brighton.
The infant has yet to be formally identified. A post-mortem exam is scheduled for Friday, 3 March.
Legal Process Underway
The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the charges. Authorities remind the public and media of the right to a fair trial for both accused.
