Five Arrested Over Peckham Shooting of Sasha Johnson
Detectives have arrested five men linked to the shocking shooting of Sasha Johnson in Peckham. The violence unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, 23 May, leaving the 27-year-old activist in critical condition.
Police Crack Down with Multiple Arrests
At 3:50pm on Tuesday 25 May, officers from the Violence Suppression Unit stopped a 17-year-old suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and intent to supply Class A drugs.
Further police raids in Peckham led to the arrest of three more men, aged 18, 19, and 28. They face charges including affray and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.
A fifth man, 25, was caught after a high-speed police chase. He was arrested on suspicion of affray and failing to stop for police. All five are now held on suspicion of attempted murder.
Investigation Ongoing as Police Hunt More Leads
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, leading the probe, said: “While the investigation remains in its early stages, these arrests show progress. We urge anyone with information about who is responsible for Sasha’s horrific injuries to come forward.”
Superintendent Kris Wright added: “This is a result of instinctive local policing and rapid intelligence work. Officers will remain active in Peckham and encourage the community to engage with them.”
Sasha Johnson Fighting for Life After Shooting
Police were called just before 3am on Sunday to reports of gunshots in Consort Road, SE15. They discovered Sasha suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to hospital and remains in a critical condition.
Her family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers. So far, police say there is no evidence Sasha was specifically targeted, nor any prior threats against her.
A man in his 20s also received a minor knife injury during the incident and has since been discharged from hospital.
