Police and Council Praise Brave Victims and Teamwork

Detective Chief Inspector Guy Laycock saluted the courage of the survivors. “They placed their trust in us and showed extraordinary strength through this traumatic ordeal. Our team and support services will stand by them for as long as needed,” he said.

Laycock added the long investigation was a partnership effort. “Rochdale Council staff were vital in identifying and supporting victims. The Crown Prosecution Service built a rock-solid case to secure these convictions and hefty sentences, stopping these predators from harming any more children.”

He also stressed that Greater Manchester Police’s approach to child sexual exploitation is now tougher and more preventative than ever. “This case shows that even historic crimes won’t be forgotten. We are relentless in pursuing offenders and backing survivors, no matter how much time has passed.”

Sharon Hubber, Director of Children’s Services at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “No jail sentence will return what these abusers stole from their victims. We salute the bravery of the survivors for bringing these scumbags to justice. Rochdale remains determined to find and prosecute all perpetrators.”

Frances Killeen, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the CPS North West’s Complex Casework Unit, also praised the victims. “The men showed utter disregard for the lifelong impact of their crimes. Thanks to the victims’ courage in reporting the offences and seeing the trial through, justice has been done.”

She added that CPS worked closely with Greater Manchester Police, Rochdale Council, and Manchester City Council to crack this complex case. “I hope this conviction encourages other survivors to come forward. It’s never too late to seek justice.”
