Teenagers Found Guilty of Murder in Fatal Houghton Feast Stabbing
Jack Woodley, 18, Fatally Stabbed at Local Festival
On October 16 last year, 18-year-old Jack Woodley was enjoying Houghton Feast with friends when tragedy struck. Emergency services rushed to Newbottle Street in County Durham after reports of an assault, where they found Jack critically injured.
He was rushed to hospital but sadly died the following night. Jack had been stabbed twice – once in the thigh and once in the back – alongside multiple other injuries from a sustained attack.
Ten Teens Arrested and Convicted Over Jack’s Murder
An immediate investigation was launched. Within weeks, ten teenagers aged 14 to 17 were arrested and charged with murder. Their identities remain protected due to their age.
Today, a jury found all ten guilty. They have been remanded in custody and face sentencing in August.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Brooks of Northumbria Police, leading the investigation, said, “This is a truly tragic case in which a young man has lost his life. Our thoughts are very much with Jack’s family and loved ones.”
A Bright Future Cut Short by Violence
Just days before the attack, Jack had collected keys to his new flat in sunderland/" title="Sunderland" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Sunderland and was about to start a new job. His promising future was stolen in a brutal moment of violence.
Detective Brooks warned, “I want to send a clear message to anyone who chooses to carry a weapon or believes violence is acceptable – the consequences can be disastrous.”
This senseless act shattered not only Jack’s life but has left a lasting impact on families and the community alike.
