Delivery Driver Jailed for Killing Woman on Pedestrian Crossing
Tarequl Islam, 32, was slammed with a four-year prison sentence after fatally hitting a woman at a pedestrian crossing in Lincoln. The delivery driver ignored a red light and smashed into Maria Cristina Cherino Munoz, known as Cristina Cherino, as she walked her dogs.
Tragic Crash on Lincoln’s Carholme Road
The shocking collision happened around 8pm on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. Islam was driving his red Peugeot 107 toward the Lincoln Bypass when he ran the red light at a puffin crossing. Cristina, 55, was severely injured and died in hospital 17 days later. Islam stayed at the scene immediately following the crash.
Four Years Behind Bars and Seven-Year Driving Ban
At Lincoln Crown Court, Islam was handed a four-year jail term along with a hefty seven-year driving ban. Before getting his licence back, he will have to pass an extended driving test under strict conditions.
Investigation Clears Speeding But Blame on Sun Glare
A Serious and Forensic Collision Investigation found no signs of speeding, phone use, or vehicle faults. Islam claimed the sun’s glare blinded him, causing him to miss the red light and pedestrian crossing. But the court ruled his actions reckless, tragically ending a woman’s life.
