Thanet Burglar Jailed for Ransacking Margate Home
Burglar Bags Three-Year Sentence After Jewellery, Cash and Car Theft
A Thanet crook is behind bars for three years after admitting to stealing jewellery, cash, and a car from a Margate family’s home. On 17 October 2018, the family returned to their Gordon Road house to discover it had been burgled.
Back Door Forced, Valuables Ripped Off
The back door was smashed open and a stash of items was taken — including alcohol, electrical gadgets, car keys, jewellery, and cash. Their car was also stolen from outside but was recovered by Kent Police just days later.
Confession from Inside Prison
Kirk Holt, 29, formerly of Margate, was already locked up for other crimes when in May 2019 he confessed to prison staff about the burglary to clear his conscience. He later admitted involvement in seven burglaries.
Judge Hands Down Extra Jail Time
At Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 11 October, Holt was given an additional three years for the Margate break-in. The court also factored in the six other offences he confessed to.
“Burglary can be invasive as well as costly to the homeowner so we hope that Kirk Holt’s confession to this burglary has provided the victims with a sense of closure,” said Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson of Kent Police.
“As the nights draw in this Autumn, we want to remind residents to take steps to reduce the chances of becoming a burglary victim. Keep doors and windows locked, set timers on lights and televisions to make the property look occupied if you are going to be out, and photograph and document any valuables as it’ll make it harder for thieves to sell on.”
