Ex-Met Officer Jailed for Fraud, Theft and Data Leaks

A former Metropolitan Police officer has been locked up for 40 months after admitting a shocking string of crimes — including stealing from the dead and leaking confidential police records.

Corrupt Cop Exploited Police Records and Stole from Victims

Muhammed Mustafa Darr, 39, pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court to misconduct in public office for offences committed while on duty in a North London response unit between December 2018 and September 2020. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) uncovered that Darr repeatedly abused his position by sneaking into sensitive police files without authorisation. Among the twisted breaches, he checked fraud files on himself and rifled through the criminal records of his family and mates.

Shocking Theft from Victim’s Vehicle

In one brazen incident in June 2020, Darr swiped a laptop and bag from an unlocked Tesla after his colleagues had arrested the car’s owner. The stolen goods were later found during a raid at Darr’s home.

Used Bank Details of Dead to Fund Spree

Investigators also revealed Darr took advantage of his role attending to deceased persons. He used the bank details of two dead people to buy electronic items worth hundreds of pounds.

IOPC Director Steve Noonan: “Muhammed Darr was a corrupt officer and his offending, which spanned several years, was appalling. Such behaviour is a blatant betrayal of public trust and damages confidence in policing.”

Darr quit the Met in February 2023, just before facing criminal charges.
