Ex-Detective Chief Inspector Would Have Been Fired for Gross Misconduct

A South Yorkshire Police gross misconduct hearing has ended with a bombshell – former Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Boulter would have been booted from the force immediately if he hadn’t already quit. Boulter faced serious allegations ranging from lying on vetting forms to coercive control against former partners.

Top Cop’s Dark Past Uncovered After Anonymous Tip-Off

Boulter, once in charge of Rotherham’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit and Detective Chief Inspector of Crime, came under scrutiny following an anonymous call to Crimestoppers. South Yorkshire Police’s Professional Standards detectives launched a probe that exposed multiple breaches.

  • Failed to disclose two separate investigations he was involved in at different forces
  • Concealed a longstanding gambling addiction
  • Omitted connection to a criminal acquaintance

His dishonesty during vetting exposed serious flaws in the force’s background checks and threatened the integrity of the police service.

Serious Allegations and Resignation

Boulter faced seven charges of gross misconduct, including false declarations and coercive control over two ex-partners. He admitted all charges before the hearing and resigned just a day prior.

Detective Superintendent Delphine Waring, Head of Professional Standards, said: “Daniel Boulter circumvented the system with dishonesty and lies as he knew the truth would have ruled him out of working for South Yorkshire Police.”

“His actions towards these women were intentional, premeditated, and repeated.”

Police Vows Overhaul After Vetting Failures

Waring confirmed the force has revamped its vetting procedures to plug the holes exposed by Boulter’s misconduct.

“Since these allegations came to light, we have carried out a complete overhaul of our vetting processes and restructured the department,” she added.

As for Boulter, he will be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list, banning him from ever working in UK policing again.
