Masked Mob Sets Mosque on Fire – Four Men Held
Detectives are on the hunt after a mosque was targeted in a suspected arson attack that has sparked outrage. Four men are now in police custody as the investigation ramps up.
Shocking CCTV Shows Masked Attackers
Emergency services rushed to a mosque on Phyllis Avenue at around 9.50pm on Saturday, 4 October, following reports of a blaze. Chilling footage shows two masked figures dressed in dark clothes drenching the mosque’s front door with accelerant before setting it alight.
Firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue quickly doused the flames. Thankfully, nobody was injured, but the fire caused significant damage to the mosque and a nearby car.
Police Launch Major Probe, Four Men Arrested
Since Monday, Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team detectives have arrested four men aged between 22 and 46, suspected of arson with intent to endanger life. All four are currently on conditional bail as the inquiry continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore said: “Our investigation continues at pace with house-to-house visits, forensic work, and intelligence gathering. We are determined to find and arrest those responsible for this shocking attack. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Superintendent Rachel Swinney added: “We will engage closely with all affected communities to support them and ensure their concerns are addressed.”
