Massive Blaze Erupts at Blackpool Flats, Smoke Seen 40 Miles Away

A huge fire ripped through a block of flats at Park View Court, South Shore, Blackpool, sending thick black smoke pouring into the sky. The towering plumes were reportedly visible nearly 40 miles away, with stunned witnesses spotting the fiery spectacle as far off as Southport.

Emergency Crews Battle Fierce Flames

The inferno broke out just after 3pm on Thursday, March 27, triggering a major emergency response from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. Four fire engines from South Shore, Bispham, St Annes, and Blackpool arrived at the scene, supported by an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool to combat the blaze.

Shocking footage from the scene showed flames tearing through the building’s roof as thick smoke engulfed the area. Residents and passersby quickly evacuated, shocked by the intensity of the fire.

Road Closures and Traffic Chaos as Police Respond

Lancashire Constabulary shut Highfield Road in both directions while firefighters fought the flames. Blackpool Police issued a warning urging people to avoid the area amid heavy traffic congestion and school run delays:

“Just to make you aware, we’re assisting Lancashire Fire and Rescue who are currently dealing with a fire on Highfield Road. There is a large amount of traffic building up in the area, especially with the schools finishing. Highfield Road is closed at both ends, please avoid the immediate and surrounding area until it’s safe to travel.”

Authorities warned that traffic chaos could spill over to nearby roads, advising drivers to plan ahead and expect delays.

Cause Unknown, No Injuries Reported Yet

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. So far, there have been no reports of injuries, and firefighters continue to monitor the situation closely. Locals near the fire are advised to stay indoors to avoid the smoke and follow emergency services’ instructions.
