Teen Thugs Jailed Over Daylight Murder of 17-Year-Old Kyle Hackland

Four teenagers have been locked up for the brutal daylight murder of 17-year-old Kyle Hackland in Withington last November. The gang, Yousef Sesay, Lewis Ludford, Tafari Kosey-Smith, and Alife Benson, were found guilty of a vicious revenge attack that shocked the local community.

Long Sentences for Deadly Revenge Attack

  • Yousef Sesay, 22, from Denton Road, Audenshaw, got a 22-year stretch.
  • Lewis Ludford, 21, from Aylesby Avenue, Gorton, was handed 21 years plus 2 years concurrent for carrying a knife.
  • Tafari Kosey-Smith, 19, from Lancashire Hill, Stockport, received 19 years and 2 concurrent for a bladed article.
  • Alife Benson, 12 years with 2 concurrent for burglary, was convicted of manslaughter.

Revenge Turned Fatal After Drug Deal Gone Wrong

The court heard the attack was a revenge mission after Sesay was robbed of around £1,000 by a friend of Kyle Hackland during a drug deal. The gang, driving a stolen Volkswagen Golf, mistakenly targeted a Mercedes they thought was linked to their victim.

They confronted Kyle and his friend on Southlea Road and launched a savage knife assault. Kyle’s friend managed to escape, but the victim was left to face the deadly attack alone. The attackers yelled “chef him” repeatedly before speeding off in the stolen car.

Community Mourns, Police Warn on Knife Crime

Bystanders and emergency services rushed to help Kyle, but he died from catastrophic injuries shortly after arriving at hospital.

“This tragic case highlights the horrific consequences of carrying knives,” said Detective Chief Inspector David Moores. “Our hearts go out to Kyle’s family. This is a stark warning to young people about the dangers of knife crime.”

Kyle’s family paid tribute to their son, describing him as a kind, well-mannered lad who always looked out for them. They said, “Our lives will never be the same without Kyle. Our family has been shattered by his loss.”
