Fugitive Convicted After Finsbury Park Teen Stabbing

A 23-year-old man who fled to Albania after a fatal stabbing in Finsbury Park has been found guilty of manslaughter. Kevin Peraj, formerly of Kentish Town, was convicted under the joint enterprise law at Isleworth Crown Court for his role in the killing of 19-year-old Ahmed Habib.

The verdict comes after a six-week trial. Peraj is due to be sentenced on August 1.

Brutal Attack in Early Hours

The stabbing happened in the early hours of July 11, 2024. Police were called to Stroud Green Road, where they found Ahmed Habib with multiple stab wounds inside a stationary car. Habib tried to flee but collapsed near Tollington Avenue and died just before 3am.

A second man in the car was also stabbed but survived the attack.

Chased by CCTV Before Escape

CCTV captured Peraj attacking the car’s occupants on Seven Sisters Road before Habib attempted to drive away. Hours after the attack, Peraj headed for Heathrow Airport but missed his flight. He then fled the UK through the Eurotunnel and remained on the run.

A warrant was issued at his family home, leading him to contact police. He was arrested upon returning to the UK on July 16 and charged the next day. Though initially charged with murder, Peraj was ultimately convicted of manslaughter.

Police Hunt Second Suspect

The Metropolitan Police believe another man was involved and are appealing for information. Anyone with details should call 101, quoting reference 873/11July2024, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“I would like to pay my respects to Ahmed’s family. I am, once again, very sorry for your loss. I hope this result and that Peraj will now face the consequences of his actions brings some small comfort,” said Detective Inspector Brett Hagen.

“Our investigation into the events of that day continues, and we are keen to identify the second man involved.”

Forensic teams scoured the scene and CCTV alongside witness statements played a vital role in securing the conviction.
