Man Shot Dead in Cold Blood: Mystery Surrounds Paul Gallagher’s Murder

Paul Gallagher, 26, was gunned down on July 28, 2014, his body dumped in a lonely field near Collon two days later. Despite multiple arrests, no one has been charged with his murder.

Last Known Movements Shed Light on Dark Night

Garda revealed Paul was seen with at least three men in the hours before his death. On the night he was killed, Paul and another man drove to Ballymacan around 10.30pm, after meeting two others in Tullyallen village.

His body was found two days later in that remote field, sparking a tense, ongoing investigation.

Sean Barrett: The Man Who Withheld Key Information

Sean Barrett, a 33-year-old from Donaghmede, was convicted earlier this year for withholding information linked to Paul’s murder. He told the inquest he drove Paul around on the fatal day.

“Paul called me that afternoon requesting a lift to Dundalk,” Barrett testified. “As we travelled, he asked me to pull over, spoke to someone, then we drove home around 7pm.”

“Later, Paul called again asking to be taken back to Drogheda. Near Drogheda, two men with one carrying a crowbar jumped into the car.”

“We drove to a lane, Paul and two men got out. He asked me to come along. We walked through a gate into a barnyard. Suddenly, I heard gunshots and a scream, so I ran.”

“I knocked on a nearby door, a woman answered but quickly went inside. I was terrified.”

Barrett confessed he had no idea who the two men were.

Family Pleads for Help: Who Killed Paul Gallagher?

Paul’s mother, Geraldine Gallagher, gave emotional testimony at last year’s inquest that declared his death an unlawful killing.

She recalled Paul leaving their Dublin home, saying he was heading to Drogheda to help a friend.

Despite several arrests, the case remains unsolved. Garda believe witnesses are still out there, holding crucial information.
