Gosport Flasher Jailed for Exposing Himself to Vulnerable Pensioner
A 22-year-old man from Gosport has been locked up for ten months after flashing an 84-year-old pensioner with dementia, whom he was meant to be helping.
Shocking Abuse of Trust During Food Delivery
Bradley Hammond, from Nobes Avenue, was working as a food delivery driver when he visited the victim’s sheltered housing on May 15, 2015. Instead of just dropping off food, Hammond took the vulnerable woman into her bedroom, exposed himself, and committed an indecent act.
Guilty Plea and Sentencing
Hammond was arrested and charged with sexual assault. On September 12, he pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a person with a mental disorder, under Section 32 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. On October 24, Portsmouth Crown Court sentenced him to ten months behind bars. He must also register as a sex offender for seven years.
Police Praise Carers and Send Warning
“This has been distressing for the victim and her family,” said investigating officer DC Paul Barry. “I’m pleased this sentence offers some closure. The judge has shown how seriously the courts treat abusing vulnerable people, especially when trust is broken.”
“Thanks to the victim’s carers and sheltered housing staff for reporting the abuse quickly, which helped our investigation. Targeting the elderly or vulnerable won’t be tolerated. Hammond’s sentence sends a clear message.”
