Olivia’s Killer Denied Appeal: No Second Chance for Gunman
Thomas Cashman, the cold-blooded gunman behind the death of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel, has been blocked from appealing his life sentence. The tragic shooting happened in August 2022 during a violent drug dispute that shattered an innocent family’s life.
Life for Nine-Year-Old’s Murderer
Cashman was sentenced to life with a minimum of 42 years behind bars for the brutal murder of schoolgirl Olivia. The Court of Appeal refused his attempt to reduce or challenge the sentence. This came after another bid to label the sentence “unduly lenient” also failed.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
At trial, chilling details emerged. Cashman lay in wait armed with two guns, targeting rival drug dealer Joseph Nee, 36. When Nee ran for safety, he fled toward Olivia’s open front door. Olivia’s mum, Cheryl Korbel, had just stepped outside to check the noise.
Cashman fired through the door, grazing Cheryl’s hand and fatally hitting Olivia in the chest.
‘Coward’ Gunman Snubs Hearing
Cashman refused to show up at the appeal hearing, earning widespread condemnation. Many called him a “coward” for dodging justice.
The case has stirred calls for tougher laws forcing criminals to attend their hearings or risk extra jail time. Justice for Olivia remains the nation’s demand.
