Horror in Harlow: Man jailed for stabbing two women with carving fork
Brutal Attack Shocks Neighbours
Alan Giles, 67, has been locked up for 10 years after viciously stabbing two women in their own home in Harlow. The pensioner, from Woodley’s, launched a terrifying early morning attack, repeatedly plunging a two-pronged carving fork into the women’s arms and legs.
Ten Years Behind Bars Plus Licence
Giles pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm and was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on May 29. He will serve 10 years in prison and an additional three years on licence. An aggravated burglary charge remains on file against him.
Attack Caught Police Off Guard
The horror unfolded at around 7.35am on November 18, 2019, when Giles knocked at the victims’ door. As the women opened it, he pushed one inside and launched the savage assault. Both victims suffered multiple stab wounds and were rushed to hospital.
Police found the carving fork cleaned and discarded in the kitchen sink at Giles’ home. He returned to the scene during the police search and was promptly arrested.
Investigating Officer Speaks Out
“Giles subjected two women to a horrific attack armed with a carving fork,” said PC Paul Marks of Harlow CID.
“He was known to them and took them completely by surprise. This unprovoked attack happened in their own home, a place they rightly thought was safe.”
“One victim suffered 16 puncture wounds, the other chest injuries. It was only luck he didn’t cause worse.”
“I’d like to praise the victims for their incredible courage. It has been a traumatic ordeal and I hope today’s sentencing brings them some justice.”
