Homeless Pensioner Held After Shocking Blade Threats in Newport

A 70-year-old homeless man was arrested in Newport yesterday and has been locked up following a quick court hearing this afternoon. He’s set to return to court next month.

Blade Threats Shake Scarrotts Lane

Malcolm Swann, a pensioner with no fixed address, was arrested at around 4.30pm on Thursday after an alarming incident in Scarrotts Lane. Swann faces two serious charges: threatening someone with a blade or sharp object in public, and using abusive or threatening behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.

No Bail, Next Court Date Set

Swann was remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates in Newport and has not been granted bail. He is due back in court at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 11th June.
