Man Charged With Murder After Care Home Assault in Catford
Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have charged a man with murder following a shocking assault at a Catford care home.
Late-Night Attack Sparks Emergency Response
Police were called to Canadian Avenue, Catford, at around 12:40am on Monday, 4 January, after reports of an assault inside the care home. Officers arrived swiftly, joined by the London Ambulance Service.
A woman in her 90s was rushed to hospital but sadly died from her injuries. A post-mortem will be held to establish the exact cause of death.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
On the same day, a man in his 60s was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and taken to a south London police station. He was later identified as 62-year-old Alexander Rawson, a fellow resident of the care home.
Rawson was charged with murder and is set to appear at Bexleyheath Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 January.
