Fake Healer Jailed for Manslaughter After Diabetic Patient Dies

Hongxhi Xiao, 61, has been slammed with a 10-year prison sentence for the manslaughter of 71-year-old diabetic Danielle Carr-Gomm. The unqualified “healer” was running an alternative therapy workshop when Danielle died after he urged her to ditch her insulin.

Deadly ‘Alternative’ Therapy Gone Wrong

The fatal tragedy happened back in October 2016 at Cleeve House in Seend, where Xiao was hosting a ‘Paida Lajin’ workshop—a therapy involving physical techniques with no medical backing. Despite having zero qualifications, Xiao told attendees to stop taking prescribed meds, dangerously promoting his method as a cure for conditions like diabetes.

During the three-day event, Danielle quit her insulin and joined a fast organised by Xiao. Her health quickly worsened, and she was found dead on October 20, 2016. Forensic tests confirmed she died from diabetic ketoacidosis—a deadly result of stopping insulin treatment.

Judge Slams Xiao’s “Shocking Negligence”

“Xiao failed to call for emergency help even though he knew the risk his actions posed,” said Mr Justice Bright KC during sentencing.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker revealed the difficult investigation took nearly eight years. He criticised Xiao for persuading vulnerable people to abandon their medication and said the convicted man showed little remorse throughout.

Remembering Danielle: A Lost Life and Warning

Danielle’s family remember her as a loving mother and grandmother with a zest for travel. Her tragic death sends a stark warning about the dangers of unqualified healers and the urgent need for proper medical care.

Xiao will serve 10 years behind bars, followed by five years on an extended license, delivering a clear judicial message against preventable deaths caused by bogus alternative therapies.
