Violent Brawl in Horsham: Officers Assaulted After Big Gig Event

Sussex Police are hunting for witnesses following a brutal disturbance near St Mary’s Church Causeway in Horsham town centre. Multiple officers were attacked, with one requiring hospital treatment after the violent clash.

Chaos Erupts After Big Gig

The trouble kicked off around 7:10pm on Saturday, 21 June, just after a couple left The Big Gig at Horsham Cricket Field. Police rushed to the scene amid reports of a public disturbance, only to be met with violence themselves.

Several officers were physically assaulted, and one officer suffered serious injuries requiring overnight hospital care, though they were discharged the next day.

Man Arrested and Charged Over Assaults

Oliver Latimer, 29, from St Mary’s Gardens in Horsham, was arrested at the scene. He faces seven serious charges, including:

  • Attempted wounding with intent
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
  • Two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker
  • Three counts of assault by beating
  • One count of affray

Latimer appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 23 June and was granted bail. He is due back at Lewes Crown Court on 21 July.

Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Up

Sussex Police are appealing for anyone with information or footage—especially from mobile phones or dashcams—to come forward.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1255 of 21/06.”
