Hooligan Locked Up After Brutal Football Fan Brawls
A violent thug who launched unprovoked assaults on two football fans at separate matches has been slammed with nearly three years behind bars and slapped with a decade-long football banning order.
Lee Waud’s Savage Spree
Lee Waud, 38, from Staveley Road, Hull, pleaded guilty to two counts of affray at Hull Crown Court on June 30. He was sentenced to 21 months for the attacks plus an extra 14 months for breaching a suspended sentence — totalling 2 years and 11 months in prison.
Violence Caught on CCTV
- On April 29, as Hull City fans emptied the MKM Stadium after a match against Swansea, Waud was caught on camera verbally abusing a Swansea supporter in a Walton Street car park.
- The victim tried to walk away but Waud snuck up behind him and landed a heavy punch to the head, knocking him to the floor.
- Waud and three accomplices then repeatedly hammered the man before fleeing the scene.
Attack at Service Station After Luton Away Game
The trouble didn’t stop there. On May 8, after travelling to Luton for another Hull City match, Waud got drunk on the coach home. At a Northampton service station stop, he encountered Stoke fans returning from a Watford game and viciously punched one twice.
Police Issue Warning: Football Violence Won’t Be Tolerated
“I hope this court result shows people looking to attend matches and cause disruption that it absolutely won’t be tolerated,” said Sam Wilson, Dedicated Football Officer for Hull City.
“We work closely with Hull City and stadium management to keep everyone safe. Football should bring people together through a shared love of the sport. Anyone who seeks to ruin that will face the full force of the law.”
