Body Found in Gravesend River Spurs Police Investigation

Officers are scrambling to identify a body discovered on Sunday afternoon near the Thames and Medway Canal at Norfolk Road, Gravesend. The grim find was removed from the scene by a private ambulance at around 2pm.

Police Swarm Canal After River Discovery

A large police presence arrived after reports alerted them to a body in the river. Witnesses saw two patrol cars, a Land Rover, and a private ambulance at the scene. A man in diving gear was also spotted, hinting at a water recovery operation.

Several officers and individuals were later seen carrying what looked like a black bag towards the ambulance.

Kent Police Confirm Death Is Non-Suspicious

Officers were called following concerns for the welfare of a man near Lower Higham Road, Gravesend at around 11 am on Sunday 15 January 2023,” said a Kent Police spokesperson. “Officers attended along with South East Ambulance Service and a man in his 50s was pronounced deceased. The death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”

The investigation is ongoing as officers work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death.
