Human Traffickers Busted in Massive Kent Raids
Two suspected human traffickers are set to face court after a string of dawn raids across east Kent swept up members of a suspected organised crime ring.
Major Police Operation Hits 11 Kent Locations
Early on Wednesday 16 May 2018, detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate raided 11 properties in Folkestone, Dover, and surrounding areas. The crackdown targets a suspected criminal network tied to the Czech Republic, investigating modern slavery offences under the 2015 Modern Slavery Act.
Father and Son Duo Arrested in Dover
Petr Makula, 47, and his son Mario, 25, were both arrested at their Granville Street home in Dover. They face charges of arranging and facilitating exploitation through travel, as well as possession of criminal property. Both men are due before Medway magistrates on Thursday 17 May 2018.
Additional Arrests and Victims Rescued
Police also detained a 39-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman from Folkestone on suspicion of modern slavery offences. Both have been released on bail until 7 June, pending further enquiries. Officers identified twelve potential victims during the raids and moved them to places of safety.
