Hundreds Gather in Portsmouth for Candlelit Vigil Honouring Manchester Bombing Victims
Tonight, hundreds packed Guildhall Square in Portsmouth for a moving candlelit vigil. They paid tribute to the 22 souls lost and 64 wounded in the horrific Manchester Arena bombing on Monday night.
City Unites in Solidarity and Grief
The vigil brought together people from all communities to mourn and stand shoulder to shoulder with the victims’ families. Many had come expecting a night of music — only to face unimaginable tragedy.
Defying Hate with Unity
“We come together, to show unity and to show solidarity at this difficult time,” the organiser said. “It is vital we do not allow the advocates of hate and division to use this atrocity to divide us. This would hand them their greatest victory. Our greatest weapon against hate is unity.”
Faiths and Feelings Intertwined
The vigil featured candles, prayers, and poems in a heartfelt event embracing all faiths and none. Portsmouth stood firm, sending a powerful message of humanitarian solidarity to the people of Manchester.
