‘All the Gear, All The Time’: New Campaign Targets Young Riders in South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership (SYSRP) has launched ‘All the Gear, All The Time’, a bold new initiative aimed at 16-24-year-old motorcyclists. The campaign drives home a simple yet crucial message: wear proper protective kit to slash injury risks in a crash.

Young Riders Urged to Gear Up for Safety

Joanne Wehrle, SYSRP manager, stressed the urgency as warmer weather draws more young riders onto the roads. “Young men are one of our priority groups,” she said. “It’s vital they understand how protective gear like lined trousers, padded jackets, and proper gloves can make a huge difference.”

Without a car’s metal cage, motorcyclists are incredibly exposed. Joanne added, “Modern gear with built-in armour is now as comfortable and lightweight as jeans and a hoodie — no more heavy leathers!”

Snapchat Campaign Highlights Protective Kit Benefits

The campaign’s Snapchat artwork vividly shows the stark difference in collision impact when a rider wears correct gear versus going unprotected. Joanne warned, “Too many serious injuries could have been prevented if riders wore the right kit.”

‘Just Nipping Out’ Is No Excuse: Always Gear Up

SYSRP stresses that protective clothing is essential no matter how short the trip. Joanne explained, “We often hear ‘I was just popping to the shops’ or ‘I wasn’t planning on riding fast’. But accidents don’t care if you’re five miles or fifty. A driver pulling out, or a slippery patch, can catch you off guard.”

She hammered home the importance of Kevlar-lined clothing: “It could mean the difference between shattered knees and scuffed jeans.”

When and Where to Watch

The striking advert kicks off on Monday 21 March, running for a week. It’s set to feature in the national Two Wheels campaign too — so keep your eyes peeled and your kit ready.
