James Rees Sentenced for Serious Stabbing
James Rees, from Cae Ysgubor, Trearddur Bay, appeared at 1 Crown Court today. He was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public space. The court slammed him with a nine-year jail term and slapped on an indefinite restraining order.

The horrific assault happened on the evening of January 7, 2022. Police labelled the attack “serious and unprovoked.” The victim credits a quick-thinking friend and expert medics at Ysbyty Gwynedd for saving his life.
Police Warn: Knife Crime Brutal and Deadly
“This case serves as a stark reality check,” said Detective Constable Leslie Ellis. “The length of the sentence reflects the seriousness of breaching the law in this manner. It is a miracle that this incident did not result in a loss of life, which would have led to an even more severe sentence.”
Ellis expressed sympathy for the victim and his family, hoping the court ruling offers them some comfort.
Detective Inspector Adam Sergeant added: “This cowardly attack nearly ended a young man’s life. It was only due to the quick thinking of his friend and the expertise of the medical staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd that he survived.”
He welcomed the sentencing, stressing tough punishments are needed to curb knife violence, protect the public, and make offenders face the grave consequences of their actions.
