Bembridge Care Home on Lockdown After Officer Attacked
A Bembridge care home is in lockdown tonight, surrounded by a heavy police presence following a violent incident involving a resident and a police officer.
Police Called After Late-Night Attack
Police were called just after 10pm on Sunday, July 16th, after staff at the care home made a 999 emergency call. When an Isle of Wight-based Hampshire Constabulary police dog handler arrived, she was attacked and injured by a person inside the home.
Massive Police Response at Inver House
Ten police units rushed to Inver House and Langham Court on Forelands Road, Bembridge. The response included:
- An armed response vehicle
- Two dog units
- Two police vans
- Five response cars
The attacker was arrested shortly before 10.15pm.
Damaged Property and Officer Injured
Damage was reported at the care home, including smashed windows at the front entrance and broken reinforced glass inside. It’s believed the attacker used these to force entry and then turned violent on the police officer.
Stag Lane Motors has recovered the injured officer’s vehicle while she receives medical treatment. Three police cars remain outside the home, which is still on lockdown.
Care Home Manager Silent
The manager of the home declined to comment, saying she was too shocked and that the incident is a police matter.
