Cowes Teen Arrested Over Alleged Isis-Inspired Terror Plot
A 15-year-old boy from Cowes, Isle of Wight, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court today charged with preparing an Islamic State-inspired terror attack. His identity is legally protected. His mother was present in the public gallery.
Serious Terror Charges Laid
The teenager faces a charge under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 for planning or preparing an act of terrorism. He denies the allegations.
During a brief hearing before District Judge Ikran, the court heard the youth was arrested last Monday by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) and Hampshire Constabulary. Officers found a knife in his rucksack after the FBI alerted UK authorities about a possible attack.
Targeting Isle of Wight Festival?
Prosecutors claim the teen researched the Isle of Wight Festival, which draws around 90,000 attendees and recent headliners like Lewis Capaldi and Kasabian. He allegedly looked into weapons such as firearms, vehicles, and stab vests, as well as scouting potential locations for an attack.
He is also accused of writing notes, including a martyrdom letter addressed “To My Family”.
Remanded in Custody Ahead of Old Bailey Hearing
The boy did not enter a plea, and no application for bail was made. Dressed in a grey shirt, he was told his plea and directions hearing will take place at the Old Bailey in August. He remains in custody until then.
