Drunk Driver Jailed for Deadly High-Speed Crash
Rachael Boardman, 43, has been locked up for six years and banned from driving for 13 after a fatal crash caused by her reckless, booze-fuelled speeding.
Passenger Dies After Horrific Impact
The tragedy unfolded in the early hours when Boardman smashed her car into a tree at high speed. Dominic Fryer, 51, a passenger in the back seat, was not wearing a seatbelt and died instantly at the scene.
“He was the pillar of our family. The void he’s left is unbearable,” Dominic’s wife Kristy told the court in a victim impact statement. “An amazing husband, father, and grandfather.”
More Injuries and Drug Use Revealed
Another passenger in the front suffered serious injuries, including a fractured hip. Boardman was trapped in the driver’s seat after the crash. Tests showed she was over the legal limit for alcohol and had cocaine and cannabis in her system.
Justice Served at Derby Crown Court
Boardman pleaded guilty to causing death and injury by dangerous driving. Judge handed down six years in prison plus a 13-year driving ban.
Detective Constable Dan Booth, who led the investigation, said: “We hope this sentence brings some closure to the victims’ families.” He also praised Fryer’s family for their strength during this difficult time.
