Jockey Levi Williams has been charged with murder after a 70-year-old man died following a vicious pub brawl in Newmarket.

The 25-year-old jockey, initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, was rearrested on Tuesday after the elderly victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Williams appeared at 123 from the scene to come forward.

Williams, who has raced in lower-tier events and has no prior convictions, faces a Crown Court hearing later this month. The racing community is reeling, urging respect for the legal process and sympathy for the victim’s family.
