Maidstone Police Ramp Up Knife Crime Crackdown

Maidstone Town Centre Task Force teamed up with Kent Police’s Tactical Operations Department for a heavy-hitting knife and drug sweep. Using a knife bar and drug-sniffing dogs, officers patrolled key hotspots to keep the town safe and crack down on crime.

Knife Sweeps and Drug Busts Hit the High Street

On the evening of Friday 28 October 2022, blitz patrols targeted Week Street, Earl Street, the High Street, and Brenchley Gardens. No knives were found during searches for discarded weapons, but the visible police presence sent a clear message.

Officers closely worked with late-night venues and CCTV teams to keep Maidstone’s night-time economy secure and unwelcoming for criminals.

Two Arrested and 1,000 Cannabis Plants Seized

A dramatic foot chase along the River Medway towpath saw two men nabbed for alleged drug supply. Police seized Class A drugs and cash in the bust.

Elsewhere, over 1,000 cannabis plants and cultivation gear were discovered at a rented Bank Street property. Investigations continue to track down those behind the illegal grow-op.

Traffic stops also led to a motoring offence report for driving without insurance and the detention of a wanted man in Earl Street for failing to appear at court.

Chief Inspector Issues Warning to Criminals

“Residents and visitors can expect an enhanced police presence during weekends through November and December,” said Maidstone District Commander Chief Inspector Mark McLellan. “We’re dead-set on tackling violent and disorderly behaviour and targeting criminals arriving in the county town.”

“We rely on the public to help. If you see anything suspicious, call 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.”
