World War II Bomb Shuts Down Dartford Streets
Landscapers hit a nerve-tingling find today in Dartford. While digging in a garden on Kirby Road, they uncovered what looks like a World War II bomb.
Shock Discovery Sparks Evacuation
The alarm was raised at 9:18 am, triggering a swift evacuation and the closure of Kirby Road and nearby Hillhouse Road. Bomb disposal experts from the Ministry of Defence raced to the scene.
“We first discovered it as we were digging to start putting up a fence. At first, I thought it was a tin bath. But when we brushed the soil off, its shape was unmistakable,” said Bobby Moulson, owner of Abfab Landscapes. “After a quick online search, I realised it looked exactly like a WWII bomb. I told the customer straight away, who called the police. They arrived quickly, and we were evacuated. It was shocking—I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
Kent Police and Bomb Squad Act Fast
Kent Police confirmed the discovery, saying, “Officers attended the scene, established a cordon, and evacuated nearby residents. The Ministry of Defence bomb disposal team safely removed the ordnance.”
Residents were allowed back home by around 4:15 pm. All roads affected by the closure have since reopened.
