Leeds Woman Jailed for Aiding Firearms Fugitive

A Leeds woman who helped a suspect wanted for discharging a firearm escape the UK has been sentenced to two years behind bars.

Six Months of Support for Armed Fugitive

Rashawn Bedeau kept sending money to Ellis Thornton for half a year after he fled. Thornton was wanted by West Yorkshire Police over a firearm incident on Halifax’s Lister Lane.

On January 31, 2023, Bedeau flew to Barbados with Thornton, fully aware he was on the run. She continued funding him as he moved from Suriname to Mexico until July 2023.

Thornton Still Wanted in UK but Caught Abroad

Ellis Thornton remains wanted in the UK for the Halifax firearms case but is currently held in custody in the United States on unrelated offences.

Bedeau, 28, of Arley Street, Leeds, appeared at Leeds Crown Court on January 16 for sentencing and was handed a two-year prison sentence.
