Samurai Sword Horror: Brutal Assault in Letchworth Ends with 10-Year Sentence

Danny Braybrook from Allison, Letchworth Garden City, unleashed a terrifying spree of violence between April and May 2021. He threatened his ex-partner with a samurai sword before sexually assaulting her and inflicting serious injuries.

Shocking Abuse Details Revealed in Court

On 30 May 2021, Braybrook violently attacked his victim, knocking her unconscious. Holding a knife to her, he chillingly said, “I could actually kill you.” He then punched her ribs and strangled her, leaving her with bruises, a fractured rib, and a crush injury to her neck.

The court also heard how Braybrook controlled and abused the victim verbally and financially. He destroyed her phone to isolate her and took her money to exert power over her life.

Justice Served: Braybrook Jailed for a Decade

After a week-long trial at Luton Crown Court, Braybrook was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm, sexual assault, coercive and controlling behaviour, and two counts of threats to kill.

On 17 May 2022, he was handed a hefty 10-year prison sentence, followed by five years on licence. He also received a lifelong restraining order against the victim.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery and Vow to Tackle Domestic Abuse

Detective Sergeant Steph Garfitt said: “I welcome this outcome in court and hope this sends a clear message that violence like this will not be tolerated in our communities.”

“Domestic violence is a heinous crime. Nobody should have to live in fear.”

“I commend the victim for her incredible bravery. Thanks to her courage, Braybrook can no longer harm anyone else.”

“I hope he reflects on the damage he has caused to an innocent young woman.”
