Paedophile Busted in Dingwall After Secret Online Crimes Uncovered
In May 2020, cops raided a Dingwall home, seizing electronic gear that revealed shocking indecent images of children. The evidence led to the swift arrest of Mackay.
At Inverness Sheriff Court on January 5, 2021, Mackay pleaded guilty. He was slapped with 22 months behind bars, followed by 30 months on licence. He’s now banned for life on the Sex Offenders Register.
Police Warn: You Can’t Hide Online
“There is a misunderstanding by some that the internet provides anonymity. Mackay’s arrest shows this is not the case,” said Detective Chief Inspector Richard Banks from Police Scotland’s National Child Abuse Investigation Unit.
“No matter what steps you take to avoid detection, you cannot hide behind a computer.”
Call to Action: Report Child Abuse Immediately
Detector Chief Inspector Banks added: “We work closely with partners to tackle these disgusting crimes. Child sexual abuse is a serious offence and a top priority for Police Scotland.
If you have any concerns about a child being abused or at risk, contact the police immediately.”
