St Leonards Man Jailed for Raping and Suffocating Teenage Girl
Horrific Attack on 16-Year-Old
A 43-year-old man from St Leonards has been locked up for brutally raping a 16-year-old girl he knew, before suffocating her with a pillow. Randy Tirbanie’s chilling crime happened on 16 February at a home in St Leonards. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has received support from specially trained officers and her family.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
The incident was reported to police shortly after it occurred. Officers moved quickly, arresting Tirbanie the same day. He faced charges of two counts of rape and one count of suffocation. A five-day trial at Lewes Crown Court began on 12 August, where he was found guilty on all counts.
Lengthy Sentence for Callous Attacker
Tirbanie, residing on St Matthews Road, St Leonards, was sentenced on 27 September to 12 years and six months behind bars for his appalling crimes.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
“Tirbanie breached the trust of his victim and carried out appalling crimes which will impact her for life,” said DC Sally Coleman.
“We are safeguarding the victim who showed huge amounts of bravery to help get Tirbanie convicted for the trauma and distress he caused.
“Sussex Police take all reports of rape and sexual assault seriously and encourage victims to report incidents. You will be heard, supported, and we will do everything we can to bring perpetrators to justice.”
