Suspect Slings Corrosive Powder at Four Cops in Maidstone Attack

A man has been charged after reportedly hurling a corrosive white powder at police officers in Maidstone. The shocking attack happened at 5.15pm on Sunday, 17 March 2024, when officers responded to reports of property damage on Knightrider Street.

Officers Targeted with “Corrosive Substance”

As police arrived, the suspect allegedly threw the unknown corrosive substance over four officers. Emergency crews treated them at the scene. Thankfully, none sustained serious or long-term injuries.

Man Charged with Multiple Assault Counts

Charles Rider, 26, from Knightrider Street, was arrested and faces several serious charges. These include four counts of intentionally threatening people with a corrosive substance in a private place, two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, and criminal damage. The exact nature of the substance is still unconfirmed.

Next Court Date

Rider has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 19 March.
