Paedophile Stalker Gets 10 Years Behind Bars for Historic Child Sex Abuse

Charles Stevens, 72, formerly of Maidstone and now of Padstow, has been slapped with a decade-long prison sentence for sexually abusing two children decades ago. The grim verdict came at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, May 18, 2018, following an eight-day trial that found him guilty of multiple child sex offences.

Abuse Spanning More Than a Decade

Stevens’ vile crimes were committed between 1975 and 1986. He was finally arrested on March 17, 2017, after one brave woman reported him to Kent Police. Later that year, a second victim stepped forward, leading to Stevens being charged with historic sexual offences against two vulnerable children.

Stevens Denies Charges but Jury Sees Through Him

Despite denying all allegations, Stevens was found guilty by a jury after a thorough trial. The judge handed down a 10-year prison term, paired with an additional 10-year extended licence period. On top of that, he was ordered to stay on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Police Praise Victims’ Courage

“Stevens repeatedly abused two vulnerable young children who have been traumatised for many years,” said Detective Constable Samuel Trevena. “I would like to commend the victims for their bravery in coming forward to report their ordeal and assisting the investigation. I hope the conclusion of this case and the sentence passed may provide some closure for them.”

DC Trevena urged others suffering in silence to come forward. “I would encourage anyone who is a victim of sexual abuse, no matter when it happened, to get in touch with Kent Police. You will have our full support, and we will always investigate crimes sensitively and professionally.”
