Massive Fire Erupts in Ilford Terraced House: Explosion and Roof Collapse Reported
Emergency services are in full swing tackling a major blaze near Ley Street and Benton Road, Ilford. A fire and explosion ripped through a terraced house, causing the roof to collapse and damaging neighbouring properties.
Blazing Inferno Causes Roof to Cave In
The fire quickly developed into a fierce blaze, engulfing the property and forcing the roof to cave in. Homes nearby have also suffered damage. Fire crews from across London have rushed to the scene, battling the flames to stop the fire from spreading further.
Full-Scale Emergency Response Underway
- London Fire Brigade deployed multiple units, with around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines involved.
- London Ambulance Service sent their Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to help on the ground.
- Metropolitan Police set up road closures around Ley Street, prioritising public safety and controlling traffic.
Station Commander Darren McTernan said: “Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire under control. Ley Street is closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, impacting traffic in the area, so please avoid it if you can. We’re using a 32-metre turntable ladder to tackle the fire from above.”
Residents Report Explosions and Extensive Damage
Locals described hearing loud explosions and witnessing the intense structural damage. Emergency teams continue to search the site to confirm whether anyone was injured or trapped.
Road Closures and Safety Warnings in Place
Authorities urge residents and drivers to steer clear of the incident zone to let emergency crews work efficiently. Cordon areas remain active while investigations continue.
